The year is coming to a close. As we say goodbye to 2012, we say a warm hello to 2013 and ask, what do you have for us?
The year 2012 was a good year for Android as it outsold Apple products overall. And for those who are excited about the evolution of the mobile phone, 2013 looks like it will start with a bang as far as Android smartphones are concerned.
So what does 2013 have in store for us in terms of Android phones, here are some notable ones per brand:
With the success of Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in 2012, it is not surprising that Samsung will follow up on these phones. And that is exactly what the rumors are telling us.
First is the Samsung Galaxy S4, the phone that put Samsung and Android on the map. There are not a lot of details yet but there are a couple of reports saying that the phone will be sporting a whopping 5-inch AMOLED screen with 441ppi, a 13-MPcamera and a quad-core chip for more juice.
Then there is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. This phablet will reportedly bring phone screens to new heights, literally, with a 6.9-inch AMOLED display. There is not much news about its processor, but we expect a bigger RAM capacity and internal memory to make it an even better, if not the best, business phone in the market.
Both may feature the rumored Android Keylime Pie 5.0 OS.
After the release of Droid DNA, HTC is already gearing up with new two phones that are set to launch on 2013.
The first one is HTC M7.It will feature a 5-inch HD screen that has 1080p resolution with a 441ppi. The processor is rumored to be a quad-core Qualcomm processor so expect this to be blazing fast. Other details reported include a slim aluminum body, a large battery, and of course, 4G network coverage.
The second phone is Sprint’s EVO 4G LTE 2. The EVO series has been a staple of Sprint so it is exciting to see what it will feature next year especially with the fan favorite original EVO 4G LTE being such a fan favorite. There are not many details yet, but it will probably mirror a lot of the specs of the M7, with some key features to make it different and more EVO.
LG scored big with Optimus G, so it is just practical for the company to follow up on its success. So in 2013, expect a new version in the LG Optimus g2; a phone that will be powered by quad-core processor that will be clocking in at 2GHz. Rumors also say that it will be sporting a gorgeous 5-inch 108p screen. It will, of course, have 4G LTE radio and the rumored Key Lime Pie OS.
It looks like Sony is out for blood because the rumored specs of their upcoming Sony Yuga are just ridiculous. The screen is entering phablet territory with a 5-inch 1080p full HD display but what really makes us gasp in excitement is the rumored 3GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space out of the box.
If that is not enough, you are also getting a 16MP rear camera with it. Of course, the device will also be powered by a quad-core chip for a snappy experience. Those specs promise speed, power and great images in one device.
Google Nexus 4 was so successful that it will be foolish of Google not to come up with a new version. So let us wait for Nexus 5 in 2013. This is Google’s chance to include 4G network coverage to their Nexus line while increasing its spec sheet. And knowing Google, the Nexus 5 will be available at a very reasonable price.
