^( Overview of USMLE:
The United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) is a medical test taken in series in-order to get license to practice in US territory by the government of America. This test is designed for the medical students and doctors to grant them the legal authority to work as a doctor in the United States of America. It is a standardized test with rules and regulations to be followed. The test is taken in different steps known as USMLE Certification steps. These are followed in particular sequence. Every step has its own contribution and importance in the issuance of medical license. This license is not so easy to get. It is a privilege and permission from the government of United States of America to allow the doctors and medical students to implement their expertise. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: Basic science test
In the first step, your comprehension knowledge to the basic concepts of science is evaluated. It is a primary stage test and normally students are allowed to take it after 2 years of their medical college. It includes basic science concepts, preliminary knowledge to all the areas of science and your understanding to the concepts of medical. Questions can cover the areas of Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology.
Step 2: Clinical knowledge
In the second step, the knowledge of students regarding taking care of their patients is evaluated. It is just like a clinical test in which you are evaluated on the grounds of practical implementation of your medical skills. This test is taken after your complete understanding of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Once these areas of medicines are covered, then you are eligible for USMLE step 2 evaluations. This test is also taken before the completion of your medical college. In this test, students are allocated different medical centers where they have to treat mock patients and prescribe hem medicines. Their mock testing is graded by their supervisors. It is like actually treating a patient.
Step 3: A two-part examination:
This test is taken in 2 days. In this portion of examination, you are asked different questions related to the treatment of patients and prescriptions. It is a question answer session between student and doctor. On the 2nd day, the student has to complete the physician chart. He/she has to list down the complete history of patients. They have to diagnose and prepare a complete medical report for doctors. In this way, the licensure board is able to take decision about assigning you the medical license.
Thus, these tests are taken throughout the medical college to ensure your medical expertise in all the disciplines of science and medicine.
